Jaime buttons his shirt slowly in his bedroom.  He puts on his socks.  He finishes making the bed; he bats the pillows.  A hard knock comes at the door.  Jaime walks to answer the door.

Jaime searches through the peephole.  A distorted image of a police officer appears.  The officer looks around the front and into the peephole.

Jaime steps back and looks again.  He sees another officer come into view.  Jaime cracks the door open.

JAIME: May I help you, Officer?

POLICE OFFICER 1: Are you Jaime O’Malley?

JAIME: Yes, is something the matter?

POLICE OFFICER 1: Would you mind stepping outside for a second?

JAIME: Actually, I’m only partially dressed, give me a moment.

Jaime closes and locks the door.  He takes a breath and walks back to his bedroom.

Jaime opens the drawer to his nightstand.  A nine-millimeter handgun is there.   Jaime grabs his keys which lie next to the gun; he then shuts the drawer.

Jaime walks out of the apartment and closes the door behind him.

JAIME: What’s this all about fellas?

POLICE OFFICER 1: Turn around, sir, and put your hands behind your back.

Jaime complies.  The first officer handcuffs Jaime, making sure to double-lock the cuffs.

JAIME: Am I under arrest?

POLICE OFFICER 1: We’re taking you into protective custody.  Do you have anything on your person, drugs, or weapons?

JAIME: I have my emergency inhaler in my pocket.  Keep that near me if you don’t mind.  My wallet’s in my back pocket and my keys are in my front pocket.

The first officer pats Jaime down.  He takes out Jaime’s wallet and hands it to the second officer.

POLICE OFFICER 1: Get a 27 off that.

He pulls out the inhaler, looks at it, and sticks it back into Jaime’s pocket.  He pulls out Jaime’s keys.

JAIME: Would you mind locking the front door for me?

The officer does as he asks.

POLICE OFFICER 1: All right, let’s head towards the vehicle.

JAIME: Who is the petitioner?

POLICE OFFICER 1: Your parents.

JAIME: Both of them?

POLICE OFFICER 1: As far as I know.

Jaime nods in approval.

JAIME: We going to Pawnee?

POLICE OFFICER 1: Have you done this before?

JAIME: No, sir.

POLICE OFFICER 1: We have to go to the station first to process you, then we’ll make the trip.

He opens back door of the police car and helps Jaime in.  He puts the seat belt on for Jaime and closes the door.
